Rizq in Islam: 6 Powerful Ways to Increase Sustenance

Rizq in Islam is not only about money or food. It includes many things—such as health, knowledge, time, opportunities, relationships, family, and even life itself. From an Islamic perspective, we believe that all rizq comes from Allah. One of Allah’s beautiful names is “Ar-Razzaq,” meaning The Provider.
A believer’s sincere intention to increase rizq includes caring for family, helping the needy, giving charity in Allah’s way, and striving for Paradise. If our intention is only worldly pleasure, these special ways of increasing rizq might not benefit us.
In this article, we present 6 spiritual and effective ways to increase rizq in Islam, supported by Quran and Hadith.
Taqwa
Taqwa means fearing Allah, obeying His commands, and staying away from what He forbids.
Allah says in the Quran:
يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ ۖ وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُ مَخْرَجًا
وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ“He brings them out of darkness into light. And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect.”
[Surah At-Talaq (65:2-3)]
This verse has proven effective in many believers’ lives. Sometimes rizq in Islam comes from unexpected sources. If we maintain taqwa, Allah will open doors for us. Therefore, we should maintain God-consciousness in every aspect of life—whether business, job, or family.
Tawakkul – Reliance on Allah
Tawakkul means you make every effort possible and then put your complete trust in Allah regarding the results.
Allah says:
“And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.”
[Surah At-Talaq (65:3)]
Tawakkul doesn’t mean we just sit and do nothing. Rather, we try our best and remain calm about the outcome because it’s in Allah’s hands. We often become frustrated, but trusting Allah removes that frustration. Tawakkul is the key that opens the door to rizq in Islam, even during hard times.
Giving Charity (Sadaqah) – Spending in the Way of Allah
Rizq in Islam increases by giving charity — this is clearly stated in the Quran:
مَّن ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَقْبِضُ وَيَبْسُطُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
“Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.”
[Surah Al-Baqarah (2:245)]
When giving charity, remember it is not a test to see if rizq in Islam increases. Our sincere intention should be to please Allah by helping low-income families and giving charity in Islam. Those who give from the heart, Allah opens the doors of rizq for them.
Many religious people give charity secretly — their rizq has blessings that can’t be measured by money.
Gratitude – Being Thankful
Allah says:
“And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'”
[Surah Ibrahim (14:7)]
We often take what we have for granted. But if we thank Allah for our current condition, family, health, food, and peace, Allah will increase our rizq in Islam.
A simple habit is to thank Allah for three things every night before sleeping. This gradually fills our heart with satisfaction and blessings.
Istighfar – Seeking Forgiveness
Prophet Nuh (Noah, peace be upon him) told his people:
فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا
يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا
وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَارًا“And said, ‘Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers and give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.'”
[Surah Nuh (71:10-12)]
This shows that istighfar, or seeking forgiveness, is a major means to increase rizq in Islam. We make mistakes daily — with our eyes, mouth, hands, and heart. So we should often say “Astaghfirullah.”
Istighfar not only increases rizq but also brings peace, strengthens relationships, and brings Allah’s mercy.
Maintaining Family Ties
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever wishes that his provision be increased and his lifespan be extended, let him maintain the ties of kinship.”
[Sahih Bukhari Hadis: 2557]
Today’s society often weakens family bonds. Arguments, grudges, or lack of contact with relatives cause blessings to fade from our lives. If we want Allah to increase our rizq in Islam and grant peace, we must keep good relations with relatives — by calling, visiting, or helping them.
Final Words:
Allah has decreed every person’s rizq in Islam. If we have the right intention, taqwa, tawakkul, charity, gratitude, istighfar, and maintain family ties — then, InshaAllah, rizq will increase with barakah.
Remember — having more rizq does not always mean success. Rizq in Islam becomes blessed only when spent in the way of Allah. We are accountable for how we use our rizq. So, we should not let it go beyond control but spend it for Allah’s pleasure.
Finally, we pray to Allah to grant us all halal rizq in Islam, bless it, and enable us to spend it in His way.
Ameen.
